Norman Lee Weathers, 75, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, November 11, 2021, at William Newton Hospital.
Born April 4, 1946, in Winfield, he was the son of Melvin and Ida "Maxine" (Knuckey) Weathers. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1964. While in school he was a member of the gymnastics team, specializing in the Pommel Horse and the High Bar.
Norman married Lynn Hanneman Thomas (Dziedzic) in November of 1968. The couple made their home in Arkansas City, where they raised their three children. The couple later divorced. Norman began his career at Groendyke, working as a driver and dispatcher, and later worked at Morton Buildings as a Traffic Manager. After returning to Winfield in 1990, he began working as a Maintenance Supervisor for Good Samaritan Village. In 2001 he started as a Bus Driver for Winfield School District, where he remained until retiring in 2016.
He was united in marriage to Elaine (Askins) Bolack on October 9, 2015, in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield. Norman enjoyed watching NASCAR, and KU athletics. He also enjoyed mowing, camping trips to the lake, working on cars, bowling, and was a parttime carpenter.
His family includes his wife Elaine Weathers of Winfield; his children, Chris Weathers and wife, Sherri of Geuda Springs; Cameron Weathers and wife, Lora of Richmond Hill, GA; Wendy Thomas and husband, Jeremy of Mulvane; his sister Martha Seck and husband, Bill of Arkansas City; his brother Rodger "Jed" Weathers and wife, Linda of Winfield; his grandchildren, Chelsea Siemers and husband, Evan, Chance Weathers, Chassidy Weathers, Chyler Weathers, Heather Greer Rodriguez and husband, Steven, Haley Weathers, Hana Weathers, Hagan Weathers, Trevor McChristian, Madison McChristian, Nate Ross, and Theo Thomas; and his great grandchildren, Kayden Swain, Chloe Swain, Emilia Rodriguez, Penelope Rodriguez, Brooks Davis, and a great granddaughter Gracie Dawn on the way; and his K9 companion Junebug.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by a brother Max Weathers, and an infant son Cody Max Weathers.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service, on Monday evening from 5 to 7 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Norman's name for the Cowley County Humane Society and for the Arkansas City All Sport Booster Club. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
