NORMA D. KANITZ, 85, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, February 9, 2014 at her home.

Born March 13, 1928 in Atlanta, Kansas, she was the daughter of August and Gladys (Ratcliff) George. She was raised and educated in Atlanta, graduating from Atlanta High School. She attended Southwestern College, where she received her Teaching Certificate.

Norma was united in marriage to Ernest Kanitz on March 16, 1951 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. The couple lived in Franklin, Indiana and Ulm, Germany for a short time while Ernest was in the Service. They made their home in Winfield. Norma taught fifth and sixth grade for two years in Atlanta. She also worked as a telephone operator in Winfield for a year. Her lifelong career though, was being a homemaker and taking care of her family.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. She loved to play the piano.

Her son: Stan Kanitz of Galva, KS;
Her daughter: Sharon Buscher and husband, Stan of Newton, KS;
Her sisters: Rita Armstrong and husband, Jimmy of Burrton, KS; and Donna Broz and husband Roland of Wichita, KS;
Her grandchildren: Dustan Kanitz, Jessica Koehn, and Shannon Buscher; and
Her great grandchildren: Kreighton, Kaizer and Kash Kanitz and Riley, Kemper, Madison and Lincoln Koehn.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her brother, Gene George.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 P.M.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Kanitz's name for the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
