Obituary

NORMA LEE HENDERSON, 86, of Winfield, previously of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, November 13, 2008, at Winfield Good Samaritan Village.

Born on October 6, 1922 in Atlanta, Kansas, she was the daughter of Clarence O. and Lydia (Markley) Diller. She spent her childhood in New Salem, Wilmont, Douglass and Atlanta. Norma attended Polo Grade School, Dove Grade School, and Atlanta High School, and later attended Emporia State Teacher's College.

She was united in marriage to Marvin E. Henderson on June 25, 1947 at the First Christian Church Parsonage in Winfield. The couple lived and worked on their farm south of Atlanta. Norma taught school at Polo and Prairie View for several years. She also worked at home as a homemaker. Mr. Henderson preceded her in death on February 1, 2000.

Norma was an active member of the Atlanta Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible School for several years. She enjoyed spending time with her friends in the Garden Club and the Progress Club in Atlanta. For many years, Norma reported the Atlanta News in the Winfield Courier. She was known for her beautiful singing in choirs in Emporia, at her church, and at special community events. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking and cooking and plate collecting.

Her family includes:
Her son: Gregg D. Henderson of Atlanta, KS;
Her sisters: Jo Ann Heasty of Wellington, KS; and Wilma Jo Adams and husband, Kenneth of Manhattan, KS; and
Several Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by a brother, Robert R. Diller in October of 1999.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Atlanta Cemetery.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Henderson's name for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
