NORMA L. GREEN, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009 at her home.
Born on November 28, 1927 in rural Udall, Kansas, she was the daughter of Milliard and Hope (Wilcox) Leach. She was raised and received her education in Udall and graduated from Udall High School in 1945.
She was united in marriage to Ben L. Green on July 4, 1948 in Udall, Kansas. In 1949, the couple moved to Burden. Norma had worked at Strother Field Air Base in Winfield and later Smoky Hill Air Base in Salina. In 1964, she began employment for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Winfield and later Southern Kansas Telephone Company. She retired in 1989 following 24 1/2 years of service. The couple moved to Winfield in 1998 and Ben preceded her in death on June 19, 2000. Norma had volunteered at the Eagles Nest in Winfield for the last year.
She was a member of the Burden United Methodist Church and was presently attending the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Burden. Norma enjoyed music, particularly bluegrass, attending flea markets and garage sales, and embroidery. She also enjoyed NBA Basketball, especially the LA Lakers and going on casino trips.

Her grandchildren: Shane Green and wife Paula, Melissa Howerton and husband Troy, Danny Green and wife Lindsay and Rob Green;
Her sister: JoAnn Wesbrook of Augusta, KS; and
Her great-grandchildren: Amber, Garrett, Kaden, Kyndall and Lauren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Neila Austin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 22, 2009.
