Obituary

NINA MAE ARCHER, 78, of Winfield, Kansas passed away early Wednesday morning, October 31, 2012 in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Born October 1, 1934 in Cedar Vale, Kansas, she was the daughter of Wesley and Mabel (Howell) Duncan. She was raised and received her education in Cedar Vale.

Nina was united in marriage to Jack A. Archer on February 4, 1951 in Cedar Vale, Kansas. They were sealed for all time and eternity at the Salt Lake Temple in June of 1968. The couple made their first home in Winfield. They later moved to Arkansas City where they began Archer Concrete Construction. They continued to work together in the business until retiring in 1989. In 1979, the couple moved to rural Cowley County, where they established Archer's Triple A Ranch specializing in the breeding of Black Angus Cattle and Thoroughbred Race Horses. Nina later worked as a nurse's aide at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. Jack preceded her in death on July 6, 2011.

Nina was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Arkansas City. She was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary as well as the Kansas Thoroughbred Association. She enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, reading and dancing. She especially took pride in taking care of her husband and family.

Her family includes:
Her son: Steve Archer and wife, Pam of Arkansas City;
Her daughters: Cindy Beeson and husband, Dan of Arkansas City; Natalea Archer of Arkansas City; and Tina Bridges and husband, John on Ponca City, OK;
Her brother: Cecil Duncan and wife, Velma of Cedar Vale;
Her sister: Nellie McCathey and husband, Tom of Cedar Vale; and
Her 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Nina was preceded in death by her son, Donald Jack "Jackie" Archer, her great grandson Chase Michael Archer, and her sister, Christine Wilmith.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Arkansas City. Interment will follow at Rose Valley Cemetery east of Winfield. Family and friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Monday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 7 that evening.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Archer's name for the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
