Nila Calbo, 76, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, June 26, 2022, at her home.

Born March 31, 1946, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of John W. and Myrtle (Watkins) Bradford. She was raised and received her education in Arkansas City, Kansas, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1964. Following high school, she worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center before entering the United States Army on March 21, 1978. While stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, Nila met Roy Jesse Calbo.

She was united in marriage to Roy Calbo on February 12, 1979, in Copperas Cove, Texas. The couple lived in Germany and Texas during their military career and eventually made their home in Winfield. She returned to the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center where she remained until 1998 when she began her career with the Department of Corrections, retiring in 2012. After retiring, Nila worked a couple of years serving lunch at the Winfield Middle School. Roy preceded her in death on January 19, 2019. She enjoyed nature, shooting, fishing, attending car shows, and animals, especially horses.

Her family includes her son Devin Calbo and wife, Brianna of Sierra Vista, AZ; and her three grandchildren, Kya, Kylee, and Alanna.

Nila was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Friday, July 1, 2022, from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Nila's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
