Obituary

Neva M. Simmons, 97, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, June 23, 2020 at Cumbernauld Village.

Born September 12, 1922 at the family home in Burden, Kansas, she was the daughter of James "Eslie" and Elvina (Eastman) Hall. She was raised and received her education in Burden, graduating from Burden High School in 1940.

Neva was united in marriage to Leonard A.W. Simmons on April 26, 1941 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home on a farm near Maple City, Kansas, and briefly lived in Wichita, before moving to Winfield in 1942. In 1946, they moved to their farm in the Grandview Community north of Winfield. Mr. Simmons preceded her in death on December 8, 1998.

Neva was a very active member of Grandview United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and volunteered at the Winfield Food Pantry and Joseph's Storehouse. She enjoyed genealogy work, gardening, quilting, and working on the farm.

Her family includes her son Marion Simmons and wife, Pat of Winfield; her grandchildren, Ty Simmons and wife, Crystal of Burden; Beth Biddle and husband, Jess of Winfield; Trish Smith and husband, Chris of Florida; Jana Simmons of Burden; Kristin Steen and husband, Greg of Wichita; Troy Simmons and wife, Morea of Winfield; Laurie Looper and husband, Mike of Derby; Steven Hinds of Wichita; Kevin Hinds of Wichita; and 25 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Neva was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Max Simmons, and two brothers, Francis and Vernon Hall, and an infant brother Melvin Dean Hall.

Due to COVID-19, private family graveside funeral services will be held at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Friday evening, June 26, 2020 from 4 to 8 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Neva's name for the Winfield Food Pantry and for Grandview United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
