Obituary

NEOLA A. SAVAGE, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, December 23, 2013 at Cumbernauld Village.

Born March 26, 1925 in Douglass, Kansas, she was the daughter of Homer and Frances (Pierce) Deatherage. She was raised and received her education in Douglass attending Muddy Creek Country School and graduating from Douglass High School in 1942. Neola began working for Southwestern Belle Telephone Company in Winfield in August of 1942.

She was united in marriage to Donald W. Savage on March 22, 1947 in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Winfield. They moved to Wellington in 1959 and to El Dorado in 1963. She continued to work for the telephone company until retiring as Manager of Operator Services in El Dorado in December 1979. The couple moved to McAllen, Texas in May of 1980 and to Alamo, Texas in 1990. Donald preceded her in death on February 19, 2007. Mrs. Savage moved back to Kansas shortly thereafter.

Neola attended First Christian Church, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America since 1963. She held various offices in the local club and council before her retirement. After retirement, she remained a lifelong member.

Her family includes:
Her cousin: Naomi Morrison and husband, Jim of Wichita; and
Her friends and caretakers at Cumbernauld Village.

In addition to her parents and husband, Neola was preceded in death by her sister, Doloras Asmussen.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Savage's name for Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
