NELLIE P. RUSSELL, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, November 14, 2009 at Winfield RestHaven.
Born on August 30, 1920 in Rome, Kansas, she was the daughter of Raymond C. and Eunice (Munyon) Scott. She received her education in South Haven, Kansas, and later Argonia, Kansas, where she graduated from Argonia High School in 1938. She attended cosmetology school in Arkansas City and would later own and operate her own beauty shop retiring in 2000.
She was united in marriage to Charles Crum in 1943 in Bakersfield, California. The couple lived in Elgin and Sedan, Kansas.
Nellie married Vernon Lee Roy Russell on January 7, 1984 at the First Christian Church in Winfield where the couple have made their home. The couple enjoyed traveling the states visiting with family and friends. Nellie also enjoyed reading and walking.
She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church where she was actively involved in various womens' groups and enjoyed helping with the annual bazaars. Nellie also was involved in several community service projects.

Her brothers: Eldon Scott and wife Tina of Tulsa, OK; Edwin Scott and wife Phyllis of Claremont, FL;
Gerald Scott and wife Barbara of Wichita, KS;
Her sisters: Doris Keifer and husband Bob of Valley Center, KS; Marian Coffman and husband James of Yukon, OK; and Donna Fowler and husband Milt of Wichita, KS;
Her 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Scott; and her sister, Eleanor Egy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., at the Kechi Township Cemetery in Kechi, Kansas. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 18, 2009. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.
