Nancy Jane Nichols, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Saturday morning, November 12, 2016 at William Newton Hospital.
Born April 12, 1933 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Claude Lee and Elizabeth Ellen (Story) Sheets. She was raised and received her education across Kansas and Oklahoma, graduating from Winfield High School in 1950.
Nancy was united in marriage to Robert Dean Nichols on October 1, 1950 at Grace Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their first home in St. Louis, Missouri, where Nancy attended beauty school. In 1952 the couple returned to Winfield and Nancy began working at First National Bank. She then went to work as a bookkeeper for Blair Oil Company and later completed her degree from Wichita Business School. After completing business school she began working in payroll and as a bookkeeper for General Electric. She remained at GE until her and Robert opened Nick's Auto Service in 1967 in Winfield. The couple continued running their business until 1999. Mr. Nichols preceded her in death on August 6, 2009.
Nancy was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Sweet Adelines. She loved plants, dogs, and the laughter of friends and family.

Her sons: Gary Alan Nichols of Wichita; Robert Alvin Nichols of Bartlesville, OK; James Lee Nichols of Arkansas City; Timothy David Nichols and wife, Lynn of Winfield;
Her 4 grandchildren: Thomas, Matthew, Amber and Melissa;
Her 2 great grandchildren: Ayden and Carson; and
Her extended family across the states from Alaska to Florida.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by, her brother, Thomas Sheets.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday November 19, 2016 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. A private family graveside will take place at a later date.
Memorials have been established in Nancy's name for the American Cancer Society and for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
