Myrne K. Simpson, 93, of Winfield, passed away Friday morning, December 03, 2010.
Born August 14, 1917 in Freeport, Kansas, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Bertha (Luttrell) Pettigrew. She was raised and received her early education in Freeport and later in Wellington, graduating from Wellington High School in 1935.
Myrne was united in marriage to Harold Simpson on July 31, 1935 in Newton. The couple made their first home on a farm north of Wellington. In 1946 the couple moved to a farm southeast of Winfield where they continued to farm until retiring in 1988. Myrne also worked as a cook at the Winfield High School, and later as a bookkeeper for Sunrise Dairy, and then at Hittle Service. Harold preceded her in death on January 17, 1991.
Myrne was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield and was a 4-H leader for many years.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, baking cookies, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her great grandchildren: Sgt. Joshua Waite; Jacque Eastman and husband, John; Arista Waite; Eric Waite; Logan Waite; Averie White; Easton White; Chance Alquest; Jade Alquest;
One great-great grandson baby Eastman on the way; and
Several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Myrne was preceded in death by two brothers: CW Pettigrew Jr.; Robert Pettigrew; one sister Mary Theurer; and her son in law Larry Waite.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 08, 2010 at First Christian Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 7, 2010. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Myrne's name for the First Christian Church in Winfield and for the Cowley County 4-H Council. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
