Obituary

Murry Lee Boyles , Corporal, United States Marine Corps, and Private, United States Army National Guard of Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021, after a long and prosperous life.  Murry was a proud Marine, a steadfast husband, a mentoring father, a loving grandfather, an honest friend, and a hunting buddy of 91 years.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Murry was born on February 14, 1930, in the small town of Urich, Missouri, to Mr. and Mrs. Lester and Emma Boyles.  He spent his early life growing up in rural Missouri and Chilocco, Oklahoma, where he played quarterback, halfback, and defensive back on the football team; graduated from high school; and convinced his step-mom to help him join the Oklahoma National Guard by lying about his actual age.  Private Boyles served as a rifleman in Company C, 1 st Battalion, 279 th Infantry Regiment, 45 th Infantry Division for two years until his honorable discharge.  Murry eventually took a job as a stock clerk for a refining company in Arkansas City, Kansas, and enrolled at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.

Answering his personal desire to serve again, Murry put his education on hold during the Korean War and enlisted in the United State Marine Corps in 1952, serving for two years with the 6 th Marines, 2 nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  There, he achieved the rank of Corporal, was awarded the National Defense Service and Navy Occupation Service ribbons, and spent over nine months at sea or in foreign service.  Ultimately, Corporal Boyles was honorably discharged from the USMC Reserve in 1960.

While at home in Arkansas City on leave, Murry met a young receptionist at the Kansas Gas and Electric Company name Donna Cochran, and after completing his military obligation, they were married on June 5, 1955.  Murry graduated from Southwestern College the next year with a degree in Physical Education and started building a family with Donna.  Their first child, Bradley Lee, was sadly taken by the Lord shortly after his birth, but their persistence was eventually blessed by three more children.  While in Ark City, Murry worked for APCO Petroleum and American Petrofina Companies, and then headed west to Sunnyvale, California, with the Davy McKee Company, where he continued his education in Industrial Management at Foothill College, culminating in his recognition as a Registered Control Systems Engineer in 1973.

Although he spent the majority of his life in Sunnyvale, Murry was frequently on the road to engineering job sites around the world.  From 1973 to 1996, he worked for Raymond Kaiser Engineers, the Westinghouse Marine Division, Chevron Chemical Company, ICF Kaiser Engineering, and the Kaiser Engineers Southern Company.  In that span, he worked on job sites in 12 rural areas in the U.S., as well as Canada, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Portugal, Jamaica, and he even moved the family overseas to the small, copper-mining town of Phalaborwa in the Republic of South Africa, where in 1976, a loaf of sliced bread was still a novelty.

In 1996, he retired with Donna to Henderson, Nevada, and was by her side through many health challenges.  Murry was a resident of Henderson for 17 years, and of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, for the past seven years.

Murry Lee Boyles is survived by his three children :  Belinda Boyles of Queen Creek, AZ; Lt. Col. (Ret) Bryan Boyles of Highlands Ranch, CO; Blaine Boyles of Henderson, NV; and his granddaughter , Alana Boyles of Highlands Ranch, CO.

Murry will be laid to rest in the Boyles Family plot in Dexter Cemetery beside his wife, Donna, and first-born son, Bradley Lee.  Murry leaves behind many acquaintances across the world, and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and relatives.  We love you, Dad… May you rest peacefully while catching your limit of fish, until we meet again.

A graveside service with military honors performed by the United States Marine Corps will be held at the Dexter Cemetery on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 10:00 A.M.  The service will be available to be viewed live on the Miles Funeral Service Facebook Page at the following link: https://fb.watch/8L_2SrsY5c/
