She was born on March 4, 1963, in Torrance, California. The family moved to Winfield, Kansas while she was young. Monica was the daughter of Jerry and Stella (Wilson) Venn. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School.

She married Paul Zimmerman in 1981, in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Arkansas City and later moved to New Mexico for a short time, before returning to Arkansas City where Monica earned a degree in cosmetology at Cowley County Community College. To this union, two children were born. The couple later divorced.

Monica began working at Hairport in Arkansas City in 1989, where she remained for many years. She was united in marriage to Howard Hoffmann in San Marcos, Texas in 2002. The couple made their home in Bayside, Texas and traveled the country with Howard's work. While on the road she continued her craft cutting hair for friends and coworkers. She was never without her "tools of the trade". Mr. Hoffmann preceded her in death in 2018. Monica then returned to Arkansas City and worked in the vault for 7 Clans Casino.

She was reunited with a high school friend, Jeff Lewis, and began a great relationship. The couple moved to Winfield in 2020, and Monica began working for S and Y Industries. She was currently attending Temple Baptist Church in Wichita. She enjoyed art, music, collecting elephants, crocheting, and all types of crafts. She especially enjoyed combing the beaches of south Texas for driftwood and beach glass, that she used in her artwork.
