Mildred L. Montandon, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, August 5, 2017 at Winfield Senior Living Community.
Born March 18, 1923 in Rock, Kansas, she was the daughter of Ben H. and Dora (Lawrence) Sheeks. While Mildred was a young child the family moved to Holyrood, Kansas where she was raised and received her education. She graduated from Holyrood High School in 1941. After high school she moved to Hutchinson, Kansas to attend business school.
She was united in marriage to Ivan Montandon on June 25, 1942 at the Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson. The couple made their first home in Hutchinson until Ivan joined the United States Army and they moved to Laguna Beach, California. Mildred returned to Kansas, moving to Winfield while Ivan was stationed in Panama. Ivan joined her in 1945, after the war. Mildred was primarily a homemaker while their children were young, she did however work part time sewing and ironing for others in the community. In 1963 the couple opened their own carpentry business, working on all kinds of projects from remodeling to roofing. They continued running their carpentry business until retiring in 1983. Mr. Montandon preceded her in death on July 27, 2010.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, serving as a Deacon. She was also proud to be named the Presbyterian Woman of the Year. She enjoyed, crocheting and needlepoint.

Her sons: Paul Montandon of Winfield; Terry Montandon of Newkirk, OK; Allen Montandon and partner, Gary Cone of Oklahoma City, OK; and
Her 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mildred was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janice Montandon, and grandson, Michael Montandon, a brother, Mervin Sheeks and a sister, Dorothy Krenke.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning, August 9, 2017 at 10:00 A.M., at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Tuesday evening, August 8, 2017 from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Mildred's name for Cumbernauld Village in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
