Mildred Marie Matthews, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, December 2, 2022, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Born November 29, 1928, in Imboden, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Homer and Mildred (Blansett) Horsman. She was raised and received her education in Imboden, graduating at the age of 16 from Imboden High School.

Mildred was united in marriage to Tolliver J. "Todd" Matthews in 1946, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. The couple lived in Imboden, Marshall, Missouri, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, and Oklahoma before making their home in Winfield in 1952. Mr. Matthews preceded her in death on March 10, 2015.

She was a member of Winfield Church of Christ. Mildred was a wonderful seamstress and sewed for various people. She loved to sew and garden and had a magnificent vegetable garden. She loved to can and freeze her produce.

Her family includes her daughter Gail Sidle and husband, Jim of Marietta, GA; her son Thomas Matthews and wife, Patricia of Winfield; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by a daughter Cathi Greer, three brothers, Ray, Robert, and Donald Horsman, and a sister Barbara Archer.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 5, 2022, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private inurnment will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Winfield Church of Christ and the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
