Obituary

Mike Jay Steinbach, 66, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 2, 2018 at his home.

Born August 22, 1951 in Manhattan, Kansas, he was the son of Ray and Cleota (Kelly) Steinbach. He was raised and received his education in Rock, Kansas as a small child, then moved to Bertrand, Nebraska where he remained through high school graduation. He went on to attend and play football at Hutchinson Community College before finishing his college education and graduating with a bachelor's degree in business agriculture from Missouri Western College in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mike was united in marriage to Nora Jean Wilson on June 16, 1973 in Dubois, Wyoming. The couple made their home in Wyoming until moving to Kansas in 1981 to fulfill his dream of raising cattle. In 1987, he began working for Chautauqua County Road and Bridge Department. He remained there as a heavy equipment operator for 30 years, retiring on September 30, 2017.

Mike's interests included anything to do with cattle, rodeoing, including team roping and steer wrestling, and camping at lakes and mountains with his family. He was trustee for Dexter township, a member of the Senior Rodeo Club of Sedan, and a life long member of "The Good Ol' Boy's Club".

He is survived by his wife Nora Steinbach of Dexter; his son Lee Steinbach of Bella Vista, AR; his daughter Jaclyn (Robbi) Steinbach of Scranton; his grandchildren, Tyrell Steinbach (15), Colton Steinbach (10), and Elizabeth Steinbach (2); his mother Cleota Steinbach of Overton, NE; his brother Steve Steinbach of Cedar Vale; and his sisters, Ginger Steinbach of Indianapolis, IN and Cindy Davenport of Overton, NE.

He was preceded in death by his father Ray Steinbach, his grandparents, Bert and Bessie Kelly, and Zella and John Steinbach.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A memorial has been established in Mike's name for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
