Michele Sweeney, 59, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday morning, September 1, 2026, at home.

Born February 21, 1967, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Max and Vivian (Caudill) Rhodd. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1985. After high school Michele worked as a CMA for Good Samaritan Village. She then went to work for the Winfield Daily Courier as the Circulation Manager.

She was united in marriage to Michael Sweeney on May 24, 2000. The couple made their home in Winfield. Michele returned to school in 2000 attending Cowley County Community College and Wichita State University where she graduated with a Bachelor degree in Social Work in 2005. She began her career with Family Ties before working for KVC Behavioral Health in child placement services, where she remained until retiring in 2022.

She was an avid bowler and enjoyed gambling, playing bingo, and watching tv. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughters. Family was very important to her, as was her native american heritage.

She is survived by her husband Mike Sweeney of Winfield; her sons, Justin Smith and Kyle Smith, both of Winfield; her brother Lance Rhodd and wife, Ashley of Arkansas City; her aunt Loyce Crow of Winfield; her granddaughters, Emery and Ellyn Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Michele was preceded in death by a brother Robert Rhodd and a sister Ronda Thomas.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Miles Funeral Service. Private burial will take place at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Michele’s name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
