Michael Richard Torrance, Sr., 70, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Friday morning, February 2, 2018 at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

Born May 6, 1947 in Emporia, Kansas, Michael was the son of Richard Eugene and Josephine V. (Cooper) Torrance. He was raised in El Dorado, Kansas, where he graduated from El Dorado High School. While there, he played on the El Dorado Wildcat tennis team. Michael went on to attend Wichita State University where he received his Bachelor Degree in Business.

He was united in marriage to Joan McFarland on July 11, 1975 in Wichita, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Wichita where he worked for Boeing Aircraft Company. He went on to become an Electrical Engineer while at Boeing.

After living in Wichita, they built a new home on land purchased from his parents out near El Dorado Lake. While there, he raised cattle on his "hobby farm".

Michael loved to tinker on old cars and old tractors. The challenge was to get them "up and running again." He also like to fish. His latest joy was teaching his granddaughter, Kendie how to reel in a fish and listening to her squeal.

Michael was an avid Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Wichita State Shocker fan. He traveled to as many games as he could in person, but if unable to be there, he was definitely watching them on television or listening to the game on the radio.

Michael also loved the game of Poker. He entered many Poker tournaments with the understanding that if he won, he had to split the pot with Joan.

His sons: Andrew and wife, Kimberly of Tulsa, OK; Aaron and wife, Christina of Raymore, MO; Michael Richard, Jr. of Raymore, MO;
His sister: Sandy Foust and husband, Gary of Winfield;
His grandchildren: Kendalynn, Brady, Chase, Drake, Elaine, Taylor, Kenndy and Ian;
Three great grandchildren and one on the way; and
Numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Josephine and a sister, Jane Jackson.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Millington Place located at 9th & Millington, Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Michael's name with the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
