MICHAEL A. SHIELDS, 34, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, September 15, 2014 at South Central Kansas Medical Center in Arkansas City.
Born on June 16, 1980 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Eugene and Judith J. (Rahn) Shields II. He was raised and received his education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1999. Following graduation, Michael was employed as a truck driver. He obtained his CDL and drove for American Walnut in St. Joseph, Missouri. He later was a chemical applicator at the Atlanta, Kansas Valley Co-op and was employed at Cessna Aircraft for a short time. Michael farmed for Charles Pilkington and was an over the road driver for Milton Trucking. He had been employed at Daniels Ready Mix for the last 3 months.
He enjoyed demolition derbies, boating, and hanging out with his friends and family. Family and friends were always very important to him and he was always there to help.

His mother and step-father: Judith Thomas and husband William K. Thomas of Williston, ND;
His brothers: Eric Shields and wife Christina of Mulvane, KS; and Air Force Tech Sgt. Ryan Shields currently stationed at Rota Air Base in Spain;
His sister: Lacy Shields-Collins and husband Jason of Mulvane, KS; and
His nieces and nephews: Cayden & Caleb Shields, Chase Shields, and Connor and Carly Collins.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Tisdale United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at the Tisdale Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Monday evening, September 22, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established in Michael's name for the William Newton Hospital Emergency Room Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
