Michael L. Mattheyer, 69, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Born June 19, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was the son of William Leon and Faye June (Thomas) Mattheyer. In 1954, at the age of four, Michael moved to Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. He later lived in Wellington, Medicine Lodge, and Greensburg, returning to Winfield to live with SouthWind ResCare in 1999. Michael enjoyed listening to music and visiting with others.

Survivors include his guardian Sherry Biddle of Winfield; his brothers, Steve Mattheyer of Oswego; Troy Mattheyer and wife, Yvonne of Ellis; Jeff Mattheyer and wife, Nicole of Wakeeney; his step-mother, Fern Mattheyer of Wakeeney; his case manager, Christina Brumley of Winfield; numerous roommates, friends, and caregivers at Southwind ResCare.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family services will be held in Wakeeney at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Michael's name for SouthWind ResCare. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
