Michael Paul Kennedy, 60, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at Medicalodges East in Arkansas City.
Born September 27, 1965, in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Colin Kennedy, Jr. and Linda Arlene (Cole) Harter. The family moved a lot while Michael was young, with his dad’s military career. They lived in Colorado and Spain before moving to Great Bend, Kansas, where he attended high school.
He married Jennifer Helsel in 1986, and the couple later divorced. In 1989, he married Nanette Whyde and to this union, a daughter was born. The couple later divorced.
Michael made his career as an aircraft mechanic, traveling all over the United States, returning to Kansas every year for flathead season. In 2016, he moved to Winfield and began working for General Electric where he remained until retiring in 2021. He enjoyed fishing, partying, grilling, and especially loved spending time with his daughter and his grandsons.
His family includes his daughter Melissa Kennedy and significant other, Zach Bryant of Newkirk, OK; his grandsons, Aedyn Murphy and Mathew Davenport, both of Newkirk, OK; his siblings, Steven W. Kennedy and wife, Jill of Jacksonville, FL; Rodney A. Kennedy and wife, Barbara of Round Rock, TX; Debora Delaney and husband, David Schnitzer of Bridge Water, NJ; his uncle Hal Kennedy; and his nieces and nephews, Brittany Engen, Chad Kennedy, Adam Schnitzer, and Lauren Schnitzer.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by an uncle Johnny Lee Cole.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Udall Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled Monday from 4 to 8 PM. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
