MERYL I. KNAPP, 89, of Rock, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, March 1, 2013 at Medicalodge of Douglass.
Born on December 17, 1923 in Rock, Kansas, she was the daughter of Rolla and Verna (Starkey) Kunkel. She was raised and received her education in Rock and Douglass. Meryl worked at the ice and cream house in Rock that her parents owned.
She was united in marriage on February 20, 1948 to Cecil "Peak" H. Knapp in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their home in Rock. She was a homemaker and was employed with the United States Postal Service. Meryl worked as an assistant postal clerk at the Post Office in Rock. She loved being a mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking, teaching the grandchildren how to cook and fish, and doing embroidery. Mr. Knapp preceded her in death on April 27, 1997.
Meryl was active in various functions at the Rock Christian Church and enjoyed watching Billy Graham on television. She was a member of the Rock Friendly Club, the Christian Womens' Fellowship and volunteered for the National Weather Bureau for over 35 years.

Her son: Nathan Knapp and wife Polly of Douglass, KS;
Her daughter: Chris Wells of Udall, KS;
Her grandchildren: Shilo Knapp and wife Nikki, Amanda Knapp, Christopher Knapp and wife Joni, and Travis Wells and wife Amy; and
Her 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Danny Wells; her 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Douglass Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M., The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 3:00 that afternoon.
A memorial has been established in Meryl's name for the Rock Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
