Merle Wade "Henny" Krug, 65, of Kearney, Missouri, previously of Burden, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, September 12, 2024, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Born January 22, 1959, in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Merle and Geneva (Montgomery) Krug. He was raised and received his education in Burden, graduating from Central of Burden High School in 1977. Following high school, he attended Southwestern College, where he played a year of football, enjoyed weightlifting, and joined the Beta Rho Mu Fraternity. He obtained a Bachelor degree in Physical Education.
Henny was united in marriage to Sherri Bergen on February 6, 1987. To this union, two sons were born and the couple later divorced. Henny was assistant football coach for his boys' football teams at Udall High School.
Following college, Henny began rodeoing. He rode bulls and team roped. He was the Kansas Team Roping Champion in 1993. He began working at Fluid Kinetics during college and climbed the ladder to Production Manager. For the past several years, he has worked as Production Manager for LPG Ventures in Kearney.
Henny was recently baptized at the Church of Christ in Winfield. He loved running races, half marathons, and 5ks with his boys and his family. He enjoyed river rafting, snow skiing and going to horse races and the casino. He was a KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed going to Royals games and watching the PBR.
His family includes his sons, Lucas Krug of Oxford; Lane (Megan) Krug of Oxford; his parents, Merle and Geneva Krug of Winfield; his sisters, Debra (Steven Kontour) Rising of Winfield; Tisha (Bob) Hug of Carbondale; his grandchildren, Remi and Mavrick; nephews, Austin (Ali) Rising; Ryan (Bobbi) Rising; niece Sadie (Rodney) Derstein; his great nieces and great nephews, Rihanna, Phoenix, Evangeline, Seraphina, Celestia, Clara, and Roddy; and his girlfriend Shelly Houston.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Central of Burden High School Gymnasium under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Private interment will take place at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Henny's name for the Burden Arena Association to benefit the annual Max Henderson Memorial Rodeo. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
