Merl D. Champlin, 89, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, November 2, 2012 of natural causes.
Born July 25, 1923 in Maple City, KS, to John and Fairy Champlin, he made his home in Cedar Vale. After graduating from Cedar Vale High School in 1941, he gave his service to thr Army in the European theatre of World War II. After returning home, he attended Kansas State University on the GI bill.
Merl's life work was in cattle ranching. He was a Free Mason, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons Michael E. Champlin and wife, Kitty of Cedar Vale, KS and Jeffrey D. Champlin and wife Rachel of Wichita,KS along with a daughter Kathi C. Shipley of Austin, TX. His grandchildren include Marc Champlin, Jon Champlin and his wife Michelle, Erin Champlin, Brett Champlin, Dustin Shipley, Garrett Champlin and Weston Champlin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesdasy, November 6th at the Church of Christ in Cedar Vale, KS at 10:00 A.M. with an interment service at the Caneyville Cemetery immediately following.
