MELVIN G. FINUF, 84, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, December 27, 2014 at Oxford Senior Living in Wichita.
Born on December 25, 1930 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Gerard and Ruth (Howland) Finuf. He was raised and received his education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1948.
A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War, Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Army and later served in the Army Reserves, totaling 27 years.
He was united in marriage to Gloria Ann Jennings on September 3, 1950 in Arkansas City, Kansas. In 1951, the couple moved to Winfield. Melvin was employed at the Arkansas City Flour Mill for a short time and later the Winfield Water Department. In 1952, he began employment for Beech Aircraft and retired in 1992. The couple moved to Wichita in 2009 and Gloria preceded him in death on April 13, 2012.
He was a former member of the Winfield Country Club and American Legion Post #10 in Winfield. Melvin established the American Legion Post #424 in Wichita and served as Post Commander. He enjoyed baseball and was active in coaching as well as playing it for 25 years. Melvin liked to golf and spent his time indoor cracking and shelling pecans.

His daughter: Kathy Putman and husband Randy of Wichita, KS;
His brothers: Kenneth Finuf of Houston, TX; and Eldon Finuf of Tachikawa-Shi, Tokyo, Japan;
His grandchildren: Tara, Aidan, Ryan, James, Erin, Kayla, Spencer, AJ and Megan; and
His great-grandchildren: Eric, Emma, Drew, Cole, Kenzie, Miles & Easton.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Kurt Finuf; and siblings, Keith, Esther, Juanita, Cora and Jim.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 2, 2015. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., that evening.
A memorial has been established in Melvin's name for the American Legion Post #424 in Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
