Melvin Raymond Davis, 82, of Oxford, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, September 24, 2020 at Medicalodges of Oxford.
Born December 5, 1937 in Udall, Kansas, he was the son of Harold Raymond and Beulah Roberta (Ketterman) Davis. He was raised in Udall and Oxford, Kansas and Lamar, Missouri.
Melvin worked for several area farmers before starting a trash route in Oxford. He moved to Halstead and continued in the sanitary department in Halstead. Melvin married Marilyn Callison on June 30, 1962. The couple had two daughters, Marilyn Renee and Melinda Rae. They later divorced.
Melvin enjoyed going to auctions, playing cards, farming and feeding cattle, John Deere toys, his cats, and gardening. He especially loved fishing and his dog Peanut Butter. In his early years, he enjoyed going roller skating and dragging Main in Winfield.
His family includes his daughters Renee Wassall of Oregon; Mendy (Keith) Andes of Winfield; his grandchildren, Ashley Andes, Michael Crowley, Amber Crowley; his great grandchildren, James, Trenton, Emmett, Jace, Kenzlie, and Jennika; and his sisters, Doris (Max) Brown of Douglass; Margaret Williard of Wichita; Ruth (Carl) Dennett of Oxford; Mary Anne Braungardt of Douglass; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a sister Bessie, brother Delbert, and grandsons James Willis Andes and Jacob Tyrell Andes.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private inurnment will take place at Littleton Cemetery in Mulvane, Kansas.
