Melva Lula (Day) Putman, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away August 15, 2021.
She was born January 8, 1929 in Winfield, Kansas, the daughter of James S. and Gladys C. (Eudaly) Day. She grew up in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School. She married Herschel E. Putman April 3, 1949 and they moved to Wichita in 1958. Melva was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of Glenn Park Christian Church and for many years, helped brides with their weddings and receptions at the church.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Herschel E. Putman, parents, and brother Edward L. Day.
She is survived by her brother Jim S. Day; her daughters, Karen (Ken) Morgan, Marla (Larry) Appenfeller, and Amy (Kevin) McCurdy; grandchildren, Jeremy (Marcy) Davis, Nicklaus (April) Davis, Clark Lee, Kate McCurdy, and Anna McCurdy; great grandchildren, Lilli Davis and Ian Davis; one great-great grandchild Oakley Kloxin.
Private family graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery in Winfield under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Melva's name for Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
