Melinda Orlenia
(Juul) Snyder
November 26, 1947 – June 25, 2020
Melinda Orlenia (Juul) Snyder, of rural Cedar Vale, passed peacefully from this life on June 25, 2020. She was in Sedan City Hospital with the support services of Kindred Hospice of Winfield, KS.
Rosie, as she was known to family and friends, was born on November 26, 1947, in Southwest City, Missouri, to Clarence and Lenia Mae (Foraker) Juul. She was the second child of her parents' eight children. Her father had six other children from a previous marriage.
Growing up, Rosie lived in different locations with his family, going to school in El Paso, TX; Albuquerque, NM; Ogden, UT; and Kansas City, KS. In her teens, the family moved to Wichita, KS, and Rosie met and married Fred Lee, Jr. They were blessed with their son James Lee. Fred and Rosie later divorced, and in 1999, Rosie married Ed Snyder in Cedar Vale, KS. Ed and Rosie enjoyed well over twenty years of love, laughter, family gatherings and companionship.
Rosie worked as a homemaker and did homecare for individuals. She was a waitress and owned/operated the Prairie Kitchen Café in Cedar Vale, KS, before retiring. Rosie's great cooking and homemade pies were incomparable. It would be remiss not to mention her passion for the pursuit of the ultimate big casino jackpot. She loved to snag a friend or family member to accompany her to Newkirk, OK, for an evening of entertainment at the casino.
Rosie is survived by her husband, Ed, of the home; son, James Lee Blake (Kim) of Arkansas City; step-son, Errol Snyder (Linda) of Cedar Vale; brothers, John Juul (Kim) of Cedar Vale; Sam Juul (Pam) of Cedar Vale; sisters, Teresa Daniels (Paul) of Mountain View, AR; Mary Douglas (Bryan) of Damon, TX; Molly Crossland (Ray) of Cedar Vale; Lena Duncan (Jim) of Cedar Vale; half-sister, Christina Johnston (Mark) of San Diego, CA; and many nieces and nephews with great memories of holiday dinners with Aunt Rose and her good food and hospitality. Family and helping others is Rosie's legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lenia Mae (Foraker) Juul; brothers, Clarence (Sonny) Juul, Robert Juul, and Peter Juul; sisters, Leda Juul, Elaine Kelso, and JoAnn Moore.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Snyder Ranch west of Cedar Vale. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
Rosie always wanted people to have a good meal, and she was willing to give a helping hand to someone in need or someone down on their luck. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the People's Place in Cedar Vale or Angels in the Attic in Ark City.
