MELBA METZ, 89, of Winfield, passed away Sunday evening, December 14, 2008, at the Winfield Good Samaritan Village Nursing Home.
Born on July 17, 1919, in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Howard and Jessica (Webber) Allen. She was raised and educated in Winfield, graduated Winfield High School in 1938.
Melba was united in marriage to Rex Metz on July 15, 1938 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield. Melba worked for Rex as a secretary for Texaco. When he retired from Texaco and went to work for William Newton Hospital, Melba followed working in the Central Supply Department. Mr. Metz preceded her in death on January 20, 1990.
She loved to sew. She enjoyed making dolls and clothing. She sent her dolls to people all over the world.

Her daughters: Marcia May and husband, Marion of Winfield; and Carmen Porter of Winfield;
Her grandchildren: Lisa Kreie; Dana Cahoon and husband, Jerry; and Jonita Smith and husband, Kerry;
Her great-grandchildren: Brian Haegele, Jesse Pogue, Zachary Haegele, Aubrey Pogue, Jeremy Cahoon, and Stevie Rose Smith.
In addition to her husband, Rex, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tom Allen, her sisters, Betty Anderson and Zelma McKay, and her son-in-law, Leonard Porter.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M.
A Memorial has been established in Melba's name for the Alzheimer's Unit at Good Samaritan Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
