Obituary

Maxine (Davis) Wimmer, age 87, died Saturday, July 7, 2018, five weeks after losing her husband, Bob Wimmer. Maxine was born in Marshfield, Missouri on February 21, 1931, the fourth of six children born to Ed and Edna Davis.

Maxine graduated from Topeka High School in 1949. She attended the College of Emporia where she met the love of her life, Bob Wimmer. She later transferred to Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Education. She and Bob married August 15, 1954.
During her career Maxine taught Physical Education at Enterprise, KS, was the Director of Head Start in Stillwater, Oklahoma and after moving to Winfield in 1960, she taught 2nd grade at Lowell Elementary School for 26 years.

Maxine was warm hearted, quick witted and a strong advocate for women's rights and childhood education. She kept up to date with local and world news. Nothing was off limits during lively discussions around the big round table in the living room.

Spending time with family and grandchildren was her greatest delight. At every family gathering, there was sure to be homemade chocolate cake and cherry cheesecake. She was loved for her wonderful sense of humor, her sense of fairness and the unconditional love that she gave everyone.
Maxine was a member and past president of PEO Chapter HK, Southwestern Faculty Dames and Kansas Teachers Union.

Maxine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob and her brother Eddie.

She is survived by their daughter Bev (John Gilbert), son Brad Wimmer (Carol), and daughter Patty (Terry Burley) as well as their beloved five grandchildren Taryn, Evan, Jack, Joe and Michael in addition to her sisters Rose, Ann, Delia and Nancy.

At Maxine's request there will be no public service. The family will have a private gathering at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established in Maxine's name for the Winfield Public Library, Children's Department and the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
