Obituary

Maxine Medley, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, May 31, 2023, at William Newton Hospital.

Born January 24, 1928, in Topeka, Kansas, she was the daughter of Richard and Mildred (Luke) Hudspeth.  Maxine was raised and received her education primarily in Caldwell, graduating from Caldwell High School.  Following high school, she attended a stenographer training program.

Maxine was united in marriage to Charles William "Bill" Medley on August 14, 1949, in Caldwell, Kansas.  The couple made their home in Winfield.  She worked for the Kansas Geological Society as a secretary and later as a legal secretary.  The Medleys relocated a few times. First, to Lawrence, KS (1965-1973); to Wilmington, DE (1973-1981) and then returned to live permanently in Winfield.  Bill preceded her in death on March 20, 2015.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and crossword puzzles.  Additionally, Maxine enjoyed her special experiences being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winfield and the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Maxine's family includes her daughter Jennifer Ely and husband, Wayne of West Chester, PA; her son Forrest Medley and wife, Beth of West Friendship, MD; her grandchildren: Rebecca Ely Wilson and husband, Ethan; Amanda Ely Boening and husband, James; Mackenzie Medley; and Alexander Medley; and her great-grandchildren: Charlotte Boening; Barrett Boening; and Dylan Wilson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by her brother Philip Hudspeth and sister Thelma O'Connor.

A celebration of Maxine's life will be held in the MacGregor Room downstairs at Cumbernauld Village on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.  A private inurnment will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Maxine's name for the William Medley USD 465 Foundation.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
