Obituary

Max Sawyer Henderson, 7, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, September 15, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center.

On December 13, 2011 at Wesley Medical Center, Max Sawyer Henderson was born. He was the one that made Shane and Missi Henderson of Winfield, Kansas, the proudest first time parents ever, just ask either of them. He was special. He loved sports, especially the ones coached by his dad. His favorites were soccer, basketball, and baseball. He was a member of the Winfield Heat, where he sported number 38 (cause that's how old his dad was when he was born), and shared the field with a group of his best friends. He was also a rodeo kid to the core. He was a true champion, fearless, handy, coachable, and the epitome of a good sportsman. He loved to win, but was the first to congratulate a fellow competitor. Under any circumstances that involved competition he was ever a "clutch" competitor. You would think he was on the downside of a situation and boom, he'd finish on top.

His education began at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he began his amazing relationship with the Lord, which he shared with his parents. Eventually, with his little brother, Murphy, who completed their family on November 18, 2015. He then went on to the WELC, and eventually to Country View Elementary where he was in the 2nd grade with many great friends. He was a bright light and a loyal friend. He could make his mom mad and have her laughing before punishment was even thought of. No one was more proud of him than his parents. He was Murphy's best friend, yet took great joy in "poking the bear" on occasion. He touched many and will not be forgotten.

Max was witty, outgoing, loving, and tough as nails, right up to his walk with the Lord on September 15, 2019. He told his mom many times "he wanted to be 7 forever". He may have known something we didn't. While he will be fiercely missed, his family challenges all who knew him to not honor him with sadness, but please, honor him with joy, love, faith, and laughter.

Max is survived by his parents Shane and Missi and brother Murphy, all of the family home; grandparents, Lois Henderson of Winfield; Jupe and Debbie Allen of Edna; Gary and Sharon Spencer of Udall; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was loved and returned that love to many.
