Matilda "Tillie" Ruiz, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, March 15, 2018 at Medicalodges of Oxford.

Born March 14, 1932 in Chanute, Kansas, she was the third of eighteen children born to Bidal and Emilia (Aquilar) Cabrera. She was raised in Hershey, Nebraska by her paternal grandparents, Jose and Julia Cabrera and attended elementary school in O'Fallons. She was united in marriage to Ruben Ruiz in 1950 in Winfield.

Matilda worked as a CNA, CMA and LPN at St. Mary's Hospital and the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and enjoyed attending area bingo games.

Her grandchildren: Kayle McCully, Morgan Horton, Christopher Austin Horton; and
Her 47 nieces and nephews.

Tillie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Pablo and Marcelina Aguilar and Jose and Julia Cabrera

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at the church on Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. A visitation will be held at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday afternoon from 3 to 5 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A memorial has been established in Matilda's name for Holy Name Catholic Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
