Mary Maxine Simmons, 96, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 25, 2017 at her home.
Born May 1, 1921 in Rochester, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Charles H. and Effie Estella (Rhodes) Lankford. She was raised in Hamilton County and later, McLeansboro, Illinois.
She was united in marriage to Sherman A. Simmons on June 20, 1960 in Shawnee Town, Illinois. The couple lived in Illinois for a short time before moving to Harper, Kansas where Maxine worked as a LPN at the Anthony Hospital. Twelve years later, they moved to Winfield where they remained for over 41 years. While in Winfield, Maxine worked as a nurse in private home health care. Sherman preceded her in death on August 28, 2012. Maxine enjoyed raising her family, keeping house, working as a nurse and gardening.

Her sons: James Lee Noles and wife, Shirley of Chicago Heights, IL; Larry Gene Noles and wife, Sandra of McLeansboro, IL; Alan Noles and wife, Gloria of Morris, IL; Michael Noles and wife, Sharon of Stillwater, OK;
Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by her 7 brothers and sisters.
Cremation has been effected. The family will hold services at a later date. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Maxine's name for Kindred Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
