Born November 1, 1923 in a farm house east of Winfield, she was the daughter of Gerald W. and Lucy (Kowing) Bunyan. Mary was raised in Winfield. She attended Frog Hollow Grade school and Winfield High School, graduating in 1939. She then attended business college for a year at St. John's College. Following school, she moved to Norfolk, Virginia to marry George Bruce Ranger. The couple was married on June 19, 1942. The family moved with George's Navy career and returned to Winfield in 1976.

Mary loved to work and did not enjoy being idle. She bragged that she was only unemployed for two weeks of her working life. She worked for an income tax business, was a supervisor for St. John's switchboard, was a secretary at the Winfield High School, as well as a medical secretary at Snyder Clinic. Mary quit working only to stay home and care for her husband. George preceded her in death on November 11, 1989.

Mary was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was involved in Sunday School at First Baptist Church. She was also a past Sweet Adeline. She enjoyed playing the piano and loved music. She also enjoyed playing board games.

Her family includes her son Bruce Ranger and wife, Gail of Winfield; her sister Helen Cook of Winfield; her brother Bill Bunyan of Manhattan; her seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son Freddy Ray Ranger and a brother Gerald W. Bunyan.

Memorial services will be held at a later date under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
