MARY ANN KEARNS, 80, of Winfield, passed away early Friday morning, February 20, 2009 surrounded by her family, at Cumbernauld Village Nursing Home.
Born November 5, 1928 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Derwood B. and Sylvia Irene (Biddle) Shelby. She was raised and received her education in Winfield graduating from Winfield High School in 1946.
Mary Ann was united in marriage to Donald R. Kearns on November 10, 1946 in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Winfield. In 1967 they moved to the family farm north of Winfield. Mary Ann began working for the doctor's offices of Dr. Daehnke, Dr. DePoe, Dr. Litton, and Dr. Gardner and later at Snyder Clinic Association. In addition she helped her husband on the family farm. Mr. Kearns preceded her in death on April 25, 2007.
Mary Ann was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Woman's Bowling Association. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling to bowling tournaments and especially her grandchildren.

Her daughters: Sylvia Gatton and husband, Richard of Burden; and Donna Neal and husband, Jim of Winfield;
Her brother: Biddle Shelby and wife, Esther of Fargo, OK;
Her grandchildren: Monty and Brandon Gatton, Eric Neal, Tammy Pippitt, and Stacy Townsend; and
Her 11 great-grandchildren and angel Elly Ann Pippit in Heaven.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday February 24, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday February 23, 2009 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. the family will greet visitors from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Kearns name for the First Christian Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
