Obituary

Mary M. Gaddie Gilbert, 96, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, September 13, 2015 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.

Born July 28, 1919 in Severy, Kansas, she was the daughter of James A. and Alva Julia (Griffith) Maben. She was raised and received her education in Howard, Kansas, graduating from Howard High School in 1936. After graduation, Mary moved to Winfield and began working at the Harbor Café.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd R. Gaddie on August 6, 1939 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Mary worked at McGill's Café. Mr. Gaddie preceded her in death on June 19, 1973. Mary worked at William Newton Hospital for many years, retiring in 1985 as a Diet Clerk.

On June 16, 1995, she married Hardy C. Gilbert at Grace United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Andover. Mr. Gilbert preceded her in death on July 31, 1998.

Mary was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, stitchery and crafts.

Her family includes:
Her son: Jim Gaddie and wife, Marvis of Winfield, KS;
Her sister: Mildred Slavik of South Bend, IN;
Her grandchildren: Jana Marstall and husband, P.J. of Emporia, KS; and Mike Gaddie and wife, Kristy of Wichita, KS;
Her step-children: Karen Gilbert of Wichita, KS; H. Dean Gilbert of Wichita, KS; Bob Gilbert and wife, Brenda of Hutchinson, KS; Julie Clopton of Andover, KS; Joni Gilbert of Andover, KS; and
Her five great grandsons, eight step grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Cox and Esther Rentfro and her brother, Charles Maben.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 Friday, September 18, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at Union Graham Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Mary's name for Grace United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
