Mary Elizabeth "Mary Beth" Smith, 63, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday night, February 3, 2018 at William Newton Hospital.

Born November 18, 1954 in Kearny, New Jersey, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Murray) Neil. She was raised and received her education in Kearny graduating from Kearny High School in 1973. After school she moved to Northern California. She was married to Christopher Smith. The couple moved to Winfield and later divorced. After some time as a band road manager in California, Mary Beth managed Kirkwood Restaurant. She worked the crush at Gallo Wineries, continuing after moving to Kansas.

She was united in marriage to Dave Smith on September 6, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their first home in Riverton, New Jersey. Mary dedicated her life to working with animals, as a trainer. After Dave's retirement, they moved to Winfield to be near Mary's parents. Mary Beth retired to care for the needs of her husband. She was a lively spirit who lived a life filled with adventures. Her passions included art, sketching and oils and music. She was a courageous and compassionate woman.

Her husband: Dave Smith of Winfield;
Her sister: Valerie Stoll and husband, Rick of Winfield; and
Her nephews: Frank Neil of Winfield; Matthew DeVoe of Winfield.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and William Neil.

A viewing and visitation will be held at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from noon to 1 and from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during those times. Local musicians are welcome to bring their instruments to help celebrate her life. A private family burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Mary's name for Kansas For Change, Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
