Mary Beth Dietrick, 90, of Winfield, Kansas passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, June 19, 2015 at her home with family at her side.
Born August 7, 1924 in Winfield, Kansas, Mary Beth was the daughter of Dr. and Rev. Joe Riley and Valois "Peg" (Williams) Burns. Mary Beth's father was a Methodist minister and the family lived in Winfield, Wichita, Ashland and Hays. Mary Beth graduated from Hays High School in 1942 and later from the University of Kansas.
Mary Beth married Donald Dean Dietrick in 1947. To this union, four children were born. The couple later divorced.
Mary Beth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winfield and belonged to PEO. In addition to spending time with her family, Mary Beth loved reading and was a regular patron of the Winfield Public Library. She was an excellent scrabble player, crossword puzzle expert and enjoyed card games and mahjong with her friends. She also enjoyed watching TV game shows, college sports, especially KU basketball, and indulging in milk (not dark) chocolates.
Her family includes her sister, Dorcus Lahnert, of Colorado Springs, CO and her children, John Dietrick and wife, Kristina of Topeka, KS; Sarah Dietrick Collier and husband, Mike of Benton, LA; Matthew Dietrick and wife Cath of Topeka, KS; and Joe Dietrick and wife, Wendy of Chillicothe, MO. Her grandchildren include Travis Dietrick, Sarah Dietrick, Emily Dietrick Rogers, Amanda Dietrick, Jack Collier, Jordan Dietrick, Lauren Dietrick and Mary Dietrick.
Mary Beth was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Joe Burns, Jr. and C. David Burns.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, June 25, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Mary Beth's name at Winfield Public Library. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
