Obituary

MARY CHEROKEE 'DEE' CLARK, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at her home.

Born on December 31, 1937 in Claremore, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Joe Sequiche and Jane Elizabeth (Thomas) Morris. Mary attended Chilocco Indian School and West High School in Wichita, Kansas. She later graduated from Southwestern College where she received her Masters Degree. She was a beautician for a short time before being employed as a teacher at the State Hospital in Serendipity. After its closing, Mary taught public schools in Sedan, Kansas and retired in 1999. Following her retirement she moved to Winfield where she resided with her daughter.

She was united in marriage to Floyd H. Murphy in 1956. Mr. Murphy preceded her in death in 1957.

Mary married Edward 'Gene' E. Clark in 1958. Mr. Clark preceded her in death in 1996.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening.

Her family includes:
Her daughter: Catherine Clark Widener of Winfield, KS;
Her grandchildren: Andrew Schwarz and Jennifer Gutierrez;
Her great-great grandchildren: Landon Schwarz, Victoria Gutierrez and Anthony Gutierrez; and
Her sister: Artist Ann Sterling of Seattle, WA.
In addition to parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, William Joe Murphy in 1957; her sisters, Sequiche Delano Morris and Charlotte Jo Sterns.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 P.M., Friday, October 29, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until service time that evening.
