Mary "Marianne" Byrd, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, September 3, 2015, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Born April 10, 1927 in Comanche County, Kansas, she was the daughter of Hugh and Anna (Lenz) Gresty. She was raised and received her education in Winfield.

Marianne was united in marriage to Claude Edward Byrd in 1955. To this union six children were born. The couple later divorced. Marianne worked as a custodian at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She also worked for several local families as a housekeeper and in home caretaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winfield. She enjoyed sewing, collecting nick knacks, and attending family get-togethers. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her daughters: Karen Crane of Winfield; Sheryl Wilson and husband, Dwain of Silverlake; Nancy Mikesell and husband, Roy of Winfield;
Her sons: Edward Byrd and wife, Sheryl of Topeka; Jerry Byrd and wife, Angela of Winfield;
Her sister: Ann Jones of Missouri;
Her brothers: Hugh Gresty of Scott City; John Gresty and wife, Patsy of Goodland; and
Her 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Marianne was preceded in death by a son, David, and two sisters, Maggie and Violet.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, September 8, 2015 from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors at this time.

A memorial has been established in Marianne's name for the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
