Obituary

Mary Rebecca "Becky" McMichael, 73, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, February 16, 2014, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.

Born on November 19, 1940 in Peru, Indiana she was the daughter of Marjorie (Beal) and David Lighty. She was raised and received her education in Peru, graduating from Peru High School. She then attended Franklin College in Indiana.

Becky married Gene A. Smock in May of 1960 in Franklin, Indiana. The couple moved to Oxford, Kansas in 1965 where they made their home and raised four children until divorcing in 1978.

In June of 1978 Becky married Albert A. McMichael, the couple made their home in Winfield, Kansas where they adopted two children and fostered many others whom she loved as her own. She later attended Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas where she graduated with an Associates Degree. Becky worked at the Riverside Nursing Home in Oxford, KS and retired from the Winfield State Hospital in Winfield, KS.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Winfield, Kansas. She enjoyed spending time with family, painting, crochet, collecting dolls and holiday decorations, gardening, and learning many different arts and crafts. She was a Sunday school teacher, girl scout leader and foster mother to many.

Her 6 children: Howard (Tim) Smock of Oxford; Penny McPherson and husband, Bill of Winfield; David Smock of Wichita; Kimberly Smock of Blackwell, OK; Michael McMichael of Cambridge; Kimberly McMichael of Parsons;
Her foster children: Jennie Jones and husband, Paul of Oxford; Linda Calvin of Winfield; Chuck Maynard of Winfield;
Her 15 grandchildren: Autumn McPherson, Shauna Andes, Amber Ten Eyck, Jessica Calvin, Melissa McMichael, Tammy Smock, Heather Jones, Starla Crable, Kaitlyn Calvin, Tyler McMichael, Lucas McMichael, Brandon Crable, Nick Crable, Joshua Jones, Kyle Jones; and
Her 6 great-grandchildren.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Becky's name for Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
