Obituary

Marvin Leon Stovall, 73, of Burden, Kansas, passed away early Saturday morning, August 31, 2024, at his home.

Born December 27, 1950, in Slaton, Texas, he was the son of Donald Keith and Jean Crystell (Walston) Stovall.  He graduated from Dumas High School in 1969. Following high school, Leon joined the United States Army Reserves and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in January 1976.

Leon worked as a Chief Pilot instructor and spray pilot most of his life. He served on the Burden City Council and as a Silver Creek Township Precinct Committeeman. He enjoyed participating in Burden Dayz, Antique Car Shows – winning multiple places and prizes with his 1928 Ford Model A Sport Coupe, 1929 Ford Model A Pickup, and 1937 Chevrolet Pickup, and racing his 13½ ft. Sprint Boat with a 350 Chevrolet engine and jet drive in boat races across the country. He loved spending time with family and friends, doing CNC woodwork, building airplanes – to include a 1928 Brodhead Pietenpol Air Camper he built from scratch with his dad, restoring his antique cars, talking politics, and telling his flying stories.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Jean Stovall; his sisters, Brenda Gail Blessing and Ricky Jo Pulpan; his oldest daughter, Kari Claypool; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by an uncle Richard Stovall (Betty) of Lubbock, TX; two daughters, Krystal Scribner (Clayton) of Pflugerville, TX and Ashley Burnett (Conner) of Perkins, OK; grandchildren, Bethany Claypool (Dalton), Dustin Claypool, Ronnie Jo Claypool, Sydney McDonald, Alex McDonald (Kalysta), Jordan Scribner, Jerald Scribner, Josey Inselman, Bristol Inselman, Charles Burnett; five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Cortney Davidson (Mike) of Ulysses, KS,  Kelly White of Booker, TX, Asa Pulpan (Alicia) of Benbrook, TX; Scott Behrend (Cyndi) of Tyler, TX, Carol Merrifield (Jeremy Bartley) of Redlands, CA; several great nieces and nephews, and best friends, Ron Cannon and Charlie Goad.


Graveside memorial services and Military Committal Honors will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Burden Cemetery under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cowley County Fire District #3 in Burden, Kansas.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
