Obituary

Marvin Eddie Holden, Sr., 84, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, August 20, 2020 at Medicalodges of Arkansas City.

Born February 16, 1936 in Anthony, Kansas, he was the son of Eddie and Elsie (Kiser) Holden.  He was raised and received his early education in Harper before moving to Wichita and attending North High School.  Marvin joined the United States Air Force in March 1955.  He proudly served his country for three years, receiving the rank of Airman First Class.  He was honorably discharged on December 23, 1958.

Marvin was united in marriage to Wanda L. Merchen, and the couple made their first home in Sacramento, California, and moved to Wichita, Kansas, following Marvin's discharge from the Air Force.

Marvin worked from the time he was eight years old.  He started out selling fruits and vegetables door to door.  Following the Air Force, he began working for Hertz Truck and Car Rental.  He then went to Beech Aircraft and White Star Trucking before becoming a truck driver for Quick Transfer.  He retired in 2001.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.  He enjoyed trains, horses, games, camping, and hunting.  He especially enjoyed his family.

His family includes his son Marvin Eddie Holden, Jr. and wife, Norma, of Wichita; his daughters, Debbie A. Pendland of Arkansas City; Barbara L. Logan and husband, James of Moline; his son-in-law Billy Milner of Arkansas City; his grandchildren, Jeff, Shondelle, Michael, Kristen, Ashley, Miranda, Tanner, Torrin, Jose, Tony, John, Lilly, Kerry, Brandon, and Devery; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Marvin was preceded in death by daughters, Elsie L. Milner and Carolyn L. Holden, a brother Lawrence W. Holden, and a sister Betty R. Campbell.

According to Marvin's wishes, the family will hold private memorial services at a later date.  Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Service.
