Marshall C. Martin, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 5, 2020 at his home.
Born February 3, 1948 in Winfield, he was the son of Guy and Katherine (Gill) Martin. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. In 1965 he joined the National Guard and in 1968 was called up to Fort Carson, Colorado. After a year at Fort Carson he was sent to Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne. After Vietnam he was honorably discharged and was separated from the service for 15 years before reenlisting with the National Guard. He remained in service to his country for 29 years and 25 days, retiring at the age of 60 as a Master Sergeant.
Marshall was united in marriage to Lola Freeburg on December 15, 1969 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield. The couple had two daughters, Shelly and Dawnya, and later divorced. Marshall and Lola reunited and remarried later in life, and Marshall brought to the marriage three more daughters, Tonya, Bettina, and Terra.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Legion Riders. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping, fishing, and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife Lola Martin of Winfield; his five daughters, Shelly Martin and wife, Michelle Beecher of Winfield; Dawnya Sorg and Darrin Werner of Wichita; Tonya Martin and Charlie Steeprock of Winfield; Bettina Johnson and Jim Bishop of Florida; Terra Topper and husband Daniel of Winfield; his grandchildren, Richard, Amber, Renee, Philicia, Cameron, Aleana, Anthony, Jazmin, Eli, Austin, Colton, Devin, Haylee, Dakota, Darrisa, Brianna; and his great grandchildren, Monica, Raiden, Owen, Brazden.
In addition to his parents, Marshall was preceded in death by three brothers, Phillip, Maynard, and Bob, a sister, Ruthann, a son-in-law Owen Johnson, two great grandchildren, Elijah and Savannah.
A memorial has been established in Marshall's name for the American Legion Riders. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 13, 2020 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment with Military Committal will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 4 to 8 P.M., at the funeral home. The family will greet visitors that evening.
