Mark "Steve" Cross, 69, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 10, 2023, at Winfield Senior Living.
Born August 20, 1953, in Helena, Arkansas, he was the son of Delbert and Uneeda (Davis) Cross. He was raised and received his early education in Arkansas. He also spent time in Louisiana, New Mexico, and Kansas, attending trade school in Goodland, Kansas. Steve made his career in the oil fields. He later returned to Louisiana and in 1993, received his welding certificate from Jumonville Memorial Technical Institute. Steve continued his career in the oil fields, retiring as a Pulling Unit Operator in 2014.
Steve was reunited with Beverly Kearns in Winfield. The couple were married on October 31, 2006, in Winfield where they made their home. Steve and Beverly enjoyed riding and taking trips on motorcycles. They particularly enjoyed the Talimena Parkway Trip from Talihina, Oklahoma to Mena, Arkansas, and trips to Petit Jean Mountains in Arkansas. In addition to riding bikes, Steve also enjoyed fishing and watching old westerns.
His family includes his wife Beverly Cross of Winfield; his sons, Steven Robert Cross (Barbara) of Winfield; Mark William Moss (Laura) of Wichita; his sister Deborah Graham of Beebe, AR; his half sisters, Debbie Cross Maxey of Yuma, TN; Lisa Cross Brumfield of Loranger, LA; his grandchildren, Riannon Moss (Reggie) of Oklahoma City, OK; and Steven Tyler Cross of Pennsylvania; and his cousin and caregiver Jewell Marymee.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a son Zachariah Cross, two daughters, Mandy Rose Cross and Erica "Tommi" Cross Benjamin, a brother Wayne Anthony Cross, and a half sister Marilyn Cross.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening. Preceding Steve's final ride at 3:00 P.M., Friday, August 18, 2023, from Miles Funeral Service to Highland Cemetery, friends and family are encouraged to gather at the funeral home to share stories beginning at 1:30 P.M.
Memorials have been established in Steve's name for Traditions Hospice and for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
