Marjorie Watts Strohl, 97, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at Cumbernauld Village.
Mrs. Strohl was born in Wells, Kansas on June 1, 1917. Her parents were Hallie L. and Margaret (Bingham) Payne. Two brothers, Phillip E. and Vincent R. Payne preceded her in death. She moved to Winfield in 1932 and graduated from Winfield High School in 1935. She attended Cowley County Community College, Southwestern College and St. John's College.
Marjorie married Kenneth F. Watts on January 11, 1941. He died in 1989. She is survived by two children, Marjorie "Marcy" Watts Houser of Denton, Texas and Curtis C. Watts of Winfield, two grandchildren, Mark McElroy and wife, Mary of Lewisville, Texas and Lisa McElroy Smith and husband, Kevin of Plano, Texas, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
On October 7, 1990, Marjorie was united in marriage to C. Orville Strohl. He died in 2002. Survivors of this marriage are three step children, Sheryl Strohl Holt, Joan Strohl Darfler and Rodney Neal Strohl.
Mrs. Strohl was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and St. John's College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for many years. She joined First United Methodist Church in 1991 and eventually returned to First Presbyterian Church. She was a ten-year member of Presbyterian Manor Advisory Board in Arkansas City and held many offices in the United Presbyterian Church locally, in Southern Kansas Presbytery, Mid America Synod and Grace Raymond Circle of First United Methodist Church.
She was active in various study clubs, PEO, Chapter HK, William Newton Hosptial Auxiliary, American Red Cross Board, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Worthwhile Club and United Methodist Women. She was an avid reader and loved playing Bridge.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in Marjorie's name for Eagle Nest and for Susan G. Komen For the Cure. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
