Marion "Utah" Campbell, 86, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 18, 2018 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Born June 21, 1932 in Yell County, Arkansas, he was the son of Marion Ezra "Bud" and Eva (Edwards) Campbell. While Utah was young, the family moved for a short time to Oakland, California. They later returned to Perryville, Arkansas, where he was raised and received his education.
In 1949, he moved to Arkansas City, Kansas and began working at Dixie Portland Mill. He was united in marriage to Mary Lois Stephens on July 13, 1953 in Danville, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Arkansas City where Utah continued working at the mill and remained there for over 46 years, retiring in 1995. Mrs. Campbell preceded him in death on March 29, 2006.
He was an active longtime member of Arkansas City First Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and waterskiing. He was a very supportive father and enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's activities and sporting events.
His family includes his sons, Don Campbell and wife, Jean of Arkansas City; Keith Campbell and wife, Tamra of Arkansas City; daughter Glenda Campbell of Arkansas City; brothers, Carroll Ray Campbell and wife, Ruth of Bentonville, AR; Carl Jay Campbell and wife, Eva of Perryville, AR; Bobby Campbell of Perryville, AR; sisters, Vonda Brand and husband, T.J. of Perryville, AR; Lavanda Pharris and husband, Bill of Weaubleau, MO; Linda Hightower and husband, Elmer of Morrison, AR; his grandchildren, Chris Campbell of Arkansas City; Stacia Pappan and husband, Casey of Arkansas City; Candace Rider of Arkansas City; Faith Zavala and husband, Devin of Wichita; Gabie Campbell of Moore, OK; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, Utah was preceded in death by a daughter Janet, two brothers, Lewis Campbell and Ezra Fay Campbell, and sister Wanda Lee Brand
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Arkansas City First Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening, December 20, 2018 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Arkansas City First Assembly of God Church. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Utah's name for the Arkansas City First Assembly of God Church Building Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
