MARGUERITE ELLEN HARGROVE BREWER, 91, passed away peacefully, on June 17, 2011 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Kansas with family at her side.
Born on January 18, 1920 in Milo, Missouri, she was the daughter of Luther and Opal (Culbertson) Hargrove. She was raised in Missouri and Kansas, graduating from Crawford Community High School, Cherokee, Kansas in 1937. Marguerite earned a two-year teaching certificate from Coffeyville Junior College in 1939, and returned to the Cherokee area to teach at the Centerville Country School for two years.
While teaching, Marguerite met the love of her life, Ed Brewer, a teacher at Crawford Community High School. They were married August 1, 1941. Their marriage of over 69 years was joyous and inspirational to all who knew them.
The couple had five children and lived in various towns in Kansas (Ft. Scott, Pittsburg, Independence and Wichita) and in 1960 moved to Aberdeen, SD. In 1977, Ed and Marguerite moved to Galena, SD and returned home to Kansas in 1988, to reside in Winfield.
No matter the location, Marguerite made lasting friendships. Friends and family describe Marguerite as creative, witty and compassionate with a smile for everyone. She was an accomplished artist (oil painting, water colors, wood carving and ceramics) and enjoyed all forms of needle work (sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting.) She used all her gifts to enrich the lives of others. She loved to be involved in and organize church activities and family gatherings. Her dedication to, and love for her family was only surpassed by her love of God. She was known for taking people under her wing, and nurturing and guiding them with her whole heart. To know Marguerite, was to know that life was meant to be enjoyed, and that enjoyment was meant to be shared.
