MARGIE F. DOWNEN, 84, former Latham and Burden, Kansas resident, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Winfield Resthaven.

Born on July 7, 1928 in Latham, Kansas, she was the daughter of Robert and Marie (Hoard) Parker. She was raised and received her education in Latham.

Margie was united in marriage to Roy A. Downen on April 26, 1947 in Howard, Kansas. The couple made their home in Latham where she was a homemaker. In 1959, the couple moved to Burden and in 1972 she began working as a CNA at the Colonial Manor in Douglass, Kansas. Margie also worked at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield and the Dexter Nursing Home. Mr. Downen preceded her in death on June 10, 1992.

She was a member the Latham Christian Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, crosswords and NBA basketball. Margie also enjoyed fishing and camping.

Her son: Roy D. Downen and wife Sandra of Oxford, KS;
Her daughter: Cleta Howe and husband Maurice of Burden, KS;
Her grandchildren: Rodney Mann and wife Barri, JD Howe, Tammy Downen and Michelle Kelley and husband Allen;
Her 19 great-grandchildren and her 3 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, J.Y. and Gailey, and her sister, Donnie Davis.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Latham Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 26, 2013.

A memorial has been established in Margie's name for Winfield Resthaven. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
